Paphos (Cyprus)

ETAPS 2010, 20 - 28 March, 2010

The trip: Waterloo -> Toronto Pearson -> London Heathrow -> Larnaca-Cyprus -> Limassol ->

Paphos -> Coral Bay

Some new additions to the Pearson airport:

Above (right): Inukshuk

Below (left): An aquarium with cubes that float around. Cleaner than fish which have a tendency to die.

Below (right): Random structure at our departure gate perhaps symbolizing the confusion at airports.

Once at Larnaca, there were two options: split a 120E Taxi to our final destination or be more

adventurous and save some money by taking two buses; Larnaca -> Limassol -> Paphos

The sun started to set by the time we were on the second bus. Surprisingly the following pictures, taken

while the bus was moving, came out pretty nice with my Cannon SD1000 point and shoot.

Seems like Cyprus is all about the beaches so here are some pictures from my room’s balcony. Due to a requested change of room (we wanted separate beds) we got bumped to a sea view :)

Above (right): obviously this is not from my room’s balcony but down on the beach. The water is pretty clear though I am yet to check if its warm enough to venture in.

Left: Coral King restaurant where we had dinner. I ordered Kleftiko(right); two lamb chops baked in a closed oven, rice, vegetables and chips. I was so hungry that I could not be bothered to take a picture; Update: went again someone ordered Kleftiko and I took a picture :).

Left: Some random bar/pub where we had lunch. The food, at least what I ordered (Chicken Schnitzel) was nothing to write about (though I find myself writing about it right now).

Left: The “Akamas Conference Center” at the Coral Bay Beach Resort where ETAPS is being held. I guess the shape represents, roughly, the shape of the Island of Cyprus. The Akamas Peninsula is at the left most sharp tip on the island of cyprus, very near the town of Pafos.

Some more amazing sunset pictures. Our hotel faces West so you are treated with this view every evening.

Left: The amazing desserts at the Welcome Reception for ETAPS.

(in the interest of not overwhelming the internet

connection I broke the pictures into a number of pages)
