Cat Allergy Fact of the Day

According to cat-world.com.au:

Around 2-15% of the worlds population is allergic to cats and 1/3 of these have a cat in their home.

I wonder how that 1/3 compares to the proportion of the entire population that owns cats.

As a cat-owning allergy-sufferer myself, I can understand some of the motives that inspire people to keep cats in spite of their suffering. Yet I'm surprised that there are so many people who are undeterred by the obvious negative consequences.

(In the spirit of Friday I would post a picture of Tony and Cleo, but I don't have any pictures on my work machine. If I remember tonight I'll upload one.)

New York City Fact of the Day

Malcom Gladwell: "On a list of two hundred and forty cities in the United States with a population of a hundred thousand or more, New York City now ranks two hundred-and-twenty-second in crime, down near the bottom with Fontana, California, and Port St. Lucie, Florida."

I assume he means "incidents of crime per capita." I wonder if NYC will ever overcome its violent and dangerous image. Certainly American television tends to dwell on its sordid side.

Gladwell's article is really good, and it's not (really) about NYC.
