Assignments:  Asgn01 to Asgn06 (see due dates on schedule). To be posted when available.

Marking:  A1: 5%, A2: 5%, A3: 5%, A4: 5%, A5: 5%, A6: 10%, Midterm 20%, Exam 45%.

Lateness Policy: Assignments handed in 1 day late: 10% penalty, 2 days late: 20%, 3 days late: no credit (exceptions: a crisis such as a documented medical emergency).

Exams: The midterm and final exam cover all reading material, lecture material and assignment material unless otherwise announced.

A passing mark in the test portion of the final grade must be achieved to pass the course. The final grade is calculated using the following formula:

    if ( testing_average < 50% ) then

        final_grade = MIN( testing_average, normally_calc_grades )

    else

        final_grade = normally_calc_grades

In other words, good assignment marks cannot get you a passing mark in this course.

Discipline: A student is expected to know what constitutes academic integrity, to avoid committing academic offenses, and to take responsibility for his/her actions. A student who is unsure whether an action constitutes an offense, or who needs help in learning how to avoid offenses (e.g., plagiarism, cheating) or about “rules” for group work/collaboration should seek guidance from the course professor, academic advisor, or the Undergraduate Associate Dean. When misconduct has been found to have occurred, disciplinary penalties will be imposed under Policy 71 – Student Discipline. Avoiding Academic Offenses:  Most students are unaware of the line between acceptable and unacceptable academic behaviour, especially when discussing assignments with classmates and using the work of other students.  For information on commonly misunderstood academic offenses and how to avoid them, students should refer to the Faculty of Mathematics Cheating and Student Academic Discipline Policy, http://www.math.uwaterloo.ca/navigation/Current/cheating_policy.shtml

Appeals: A student may appeal the finding and/or penalty in a decision made under Policy 70 - Student Petitions and Grievances (other than regarding a petition) or Policy 71 - Student Discipline if a ground for an appeal can be established.
